{"id":343,"date":"2018-05-22T08:38:17","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T12:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bygeorgehr.com\/?p=343"},"modified":"2018-05-22T11:08:50","modified_gmt":"2018-05-22T15:08:50","slug":"5-tips-for-professionalism-in-the-workplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bygeorgehr.com\/index.php\/2018\/05\/22\/5-tips-for-professionalism-in-the-workplace\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Tips for Professionalism in the Workplace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is professionalism in the workplace in 2018?\u00a0 This has changed somewhat over the years however there are still some things that will give you the edge in any work environment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Attire<\/strong> \u2013 Always look the part for the job.\u00a0 Know your workplace and the dress code policy.\u00a0 While some jobs are more laid back there is a difference between business casual and dressing as if you\u2019re going to the beach or the club.\u00a0 Let\u2019s face it you can never really be overdressed, and if you are, you will be remembered and stand out.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Be On Time<\/strong> \u2013 If your work day starts at a certain time that\u2019s what time you should be at work. That doesn\u2019t mean 10 minutes late or get to your desk and then grab something to eat.\u00a0 You should be prepared to start working at the time you have to be there.\u00a0 If you find that you need extra time to get dressed or get breakfast you should arrive early to do that.\u00a0 If work is at 9:00 AM you should be prepared to start working at 9:00 AM.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Obnosis<\/strong> \u2013 (Observing the Obvious) Starting a new job you may not know all the correct things to do, so watching other employees could be helpful. Caution \u2013 don\u2019t fall into the trap of following employees that are doing the wrong thing.\u00a0 We all know what those things are.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Learn the company<\/strong> \u2013 Your department may be one of many within the organization. Find out how your department and the work that you do impact the rest of the organization. This leads to getting to know people in other departments that you may need to interact with.\u00a0 Find out what is needed from them.\u00a0 They will appreciate this and tell you things that will help you to do your job better.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Productivity<\/strong> \u2013 You were hired to do a job and the best way to be professional is to do your job to the best of your ability.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As an HR professional I have had the opportunity to engage with many employees and it has been some of the things above that have left lasting impressions on me.\u00a0 None of them new, all important and can\u2019t be underestimated.\u00a0 You never know who might be watching you or the work that you are doing.
